The right system for your roof

Flat roofing done properly, the first time

A leaking flat roof is one of the most common and frustrating problems a homeowner faces. Poorly installed systems, inadequate drainage, and cheap materials mean many flat roofs fail long before they should.

We have been installing flat roofs across Dorset for over 25 years. We only use systems and materials we trust and we back every installation with the strongest guarantees available. Our recommendation is always based on what is right for your roof, not what is easiest or cheapest for us.

And because we are also scaffolders, the access scaffolding is included in your quote: one team, one invoice, no surprises.

Signs your flat roof needs attention

  • Damp patches on ceilings or walls below the roof
  • Standing water or pooling after rain
  • Blistering, cracking, or splitting in the roof surface
  • Visible daylight through the roof deck
  • Moss or vegetation growing on the membrane
  • Roof edges lifting or peeling away
  • Leaks around upstands, drainage outlets, or flashings
  • Roof is more than 15 years old and has not been inspected

Flat roofing systems we install

We advise honestly on the best system for your project and budget. Here is how they compare.

GRP Fibreglass

Best for most domestic applications

Lifespan

25–40 years

Guarantee

20-year guarantee

GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) fibreglass is the gold standard for domestic flat roofing. It is seamless with no joints or seams that can fail, extremely rigid, and completely waterproof. Once installed and top-coated, it requires virtually no maintenance. We are fully trained GRP installers and carry manufacturer-backed 20-year guarantees on all GRP work.

  • Seamless: no joints to fail
  • Rigid and impact-resistant
  • Cold-applied: no hot works
  • 20-year manufacturer guarantee
  • Can be walked on safely
  • Colour top-coat options

EPDM Rubber

Best for large areas and budget projects

Lifespan

40–50+ years

Guarantee

Up to 50 years

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber membrane that is ideal for larger flat roofs. It is highly elastic, handles thermal movement better than GRP, and is particularly suited to flat roofs that experience significant temperature variation. EPDM is also the most cost-effective option for large commercial and domestic roofs.

  • Highly flexible
  • Excellent thermal movement tolerance
  • Ideal for large roof areas
  • Lightweight installation
  • UV resistant
  • Fully recyclable

Torch-On Felt

Budget option for overlays

Lifespan

10–20 years

Guarantee

10-year guarantee

Torch-on felt is a traditional flat roofing system that remains viable for budget-conscious projects, particularly as a temporary overlay to extend the life of an existing roof. While not as long-lasting as GRP or EPDM, high-quality reinforced torch-on systems properly installed can provide reliable service for 10–20 years.

  • Cost-effective solution
  • Suitable for overlays
  • Quick installation
  • Widely available
  • Suitable for commercial roofs
  • 3-layer system for best results

Flat Roofing FAQs

What is the best flat roofing material?

For most domestic applications, GRP fibreglass is the preferred choice. It is seamless, extremely durable, requires no maintenance, and comes with a 20-year guarantee. EPDM is excellent for larger areas. Traditional felt is now largely obsolete for new installations.

How long does a flat roof last?

GRP fibreglass: 25–40 years. EPDM rubber: 40–50+ years. Traditional felt: 10–20 years. All our flat roofing work includes manufacturer-backed guarantees of up to 20 years.

Can you repair a flat roof without replacing it?

In many cases, yes. If the existing membrane has only localised damage, a patch repair may be possible. We always inspect first and only recommend a full replacement when it is genuinely the right approach.

Do flat roofs need draining?

Absolutely. Proper drainage is critical. We design adequate falls and drainage outlets into all new installations. Standing water after rain is a warning sign; call us for a free inspection.
